Ski The Whole Mountain by Eric & Rob DesLauriers."From Powder to steeps to crud to bumps. How
to ski any condition at any time."
2002 ISBN 0-99717748-3-8. rrp USD $24.95
COMMENT: this 192 page volume is packed with excellent technical instruction and lots of colour photos
to illustrate the techniques discussed.
The All-Mountain Skier by R. Mark Elling, "The Way to Expert Skiing"
2nd ed. 2003, ISBN 0-07-140841-x. rrp USD $18.95
COMMENT: This 223 page book easily rivals Ski the Whole Mountain but it is a bit thickER, perhaps a
little wordier and the pics are b&W. It has an up to date technical chapter on boots and skis.
Inner Skiing by W. Timothy Gallwey & Robert Kriegel
Revised ed. 1997. ISBN 0-697-77827-6
COMMENT: This is an old favourite of mine by the author of the Inner Game of Tennis. Very light on hardcore
technical instruction but has some insight into the psychology of learning how to ski better but the gems could be boiled
down to one meaty chapter!
Mont Blanc and the Aiguilles Rouges by Anselme Baud. "A guide for skiers"
English ed. 2004 ISBN 1-904207-27-8, published by Cordee in the UK
www.cordee.co.uk
COMMENT: This is an awesome, comprehensive and extremely well illustrated 286 page guide to skiing off
piste - touring, couloirs, steep faces, extreme descents - around Chamonix. It has great colour maps, photos and a detailed
key for each itinerary which make this a must have book. Too chunky to actually carry on the hill, this is a brilliant research
guide which will make you sweat or salivate and is an amazing testament to how high the bar has been raised! Mere mortals
can only hope to ski a fraction of the routes documented!
